AHMED MIAH

Call: 1998
Inn: Middle Temple
Education:
LLM (International Law) University of LiverpoolBA (Hons) City of London

Areas of Practice

  • Civil litigation

Mr Miah is able to accept instructions from the public under Public Access rules.

His fees are flexible. Instructing solicitors and members of public are welcome to discuss his fees with the clerks or directly with him before instructing him.

Before being called to the Bar, he worked as a Law Lecturer teaching Contract & Business law, Torts, European Law and Public International Law to undergraduates at London Guildhall University.  He has also spent significant periods of time working with firms of solicitors and understands the pressures of operating in a fast paced legal office environment.

Mr Miah is regularly instructed to represent clients in a broad range of civil disputes and proceedings before the civil courts and tribunals. His day to day practice usually involves giving advice and assistance, drafting documents and appearing in Court. He appears regularly in the County Courts in proceedings relating to contractual claims, insurance claims, landlord and tenant matters, partnership disputes, personal injury, family law, injunctions, road traffic accidents, appeals against fines, and committal proceedings. Ahmed also appears in the Employment Tribunals as well as the Immigration Tribunals.

Mr Miah has also been involved in proceedings in the High Court. He is often asked to appear at hearings, draft Judicial Review grounds and to seek injunctions. He has been involved in bitter litigation between financial insititutions and their employees for whom he has successfully acted. More recently Ahmed has also helped clients in insolvency matters including bankruptcy petitions and liquidation actions brought by shareholders.

Mr Miah vigorously pursues cases which appear not to have correctly been dealt with in the lower courts, and has successfully handled appeals to the Court of Appeal on a number of human rights related cases. In one case of interest Ahmed was asked to provide his expertise on the bringing of an application to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Interests

Mr Miah has been a keen sportsman ever since his school days. From representing his schools in ‘every sport possible’, he won a string of junior boxing titles before going away to university, where he abandoned this noble art, in favour of football and cricket. He was the Southern Counties ABA Featherweight Champion from 1999 until he retired in 2001. In 2007 Ahmed became an ABAE Level II Coach and has been coaching boxers at the Fitzroy Lodge ABC in Lambeth. He is also an expert in general fitness and managed weight reduction. He has used his legal skills to lend assistance to Charitable sports and faith organisation. He also has a passion for travel and has travelled Europe, the Middle East and the Indian sub-continent extensively.
