Mr Kannangara is authorised to advise and represent clients under Direct Public Access and is authorised to conduct litigation.
Mr Kannangara primarily practices in immigration and human rights law, and regularly advises clients at all levels. He has appeared in most of the immigration courts throughout England and Wales, and in the Court of Appeal. He has had conduct of all types of immigration cases including asylum, right of abode, human rights applications based on private and family life, deportation, EEA applications and non-EEA family members, settlement, children and applications under points based system (students, dependants, work permits and the highly skilled migrant scheme). The factors which might influence the timescales for providing these services will be dependent on the complexity of the case and the time limits applicable to each case.
Mr Kannangara’s fees are flexible. He is able to offer is legal services under a fixed fee model. Instructing solicitors and members of public are welcome to discuss his fees with the clerks or directly with him before instructing him.
Apart from Immigration and Human Rights, Mr Kannangara practices in general civil litigation, housing and licensing matters. He has appeared many times before both city councils and magistrates’ courts on licencing matters.
He is a dynamic and skilful advocate whose representation can be vigorous when required. He also conducts continuing professional development courses for solicitors.
He advises law firms in Sri Lanka on various matters of English law. He is also able to advise overseas firms wishing to capitalise on business opportunities in Sri Lanka on various aspects of Sri Lankan law and practice.
Outside the Bar, Harshaka has written articles on immigration law for various Sri Lankan newspapers. He regularly advises the Sri Lankan community on various aspects of immigration law. He has a keen interest in politics and current affairs. Harshaka is also involved in several Sri Lankan associations in the UK.
